Imagine Ashley’s look when James surprised her with a trip to New York! At Christmas! She always wanted to see New York at Christmas… yes, he not only heard but listened. James is that kind of guy. Full of surprises. Thoughtful surprises. Good surprises : ) They flew in and stayed at the W. James booked THE best suite with a wraparound terrace in the middle of Manhattan. What a dream?! James surprises Ashley with trips a lot, so this trip was like any other fun trip. They did what most tourists did~ sight see, ooh and ahhhed on all the lights, buildings, and a trip down Central Park. A must see right? Ashley had the day all planned out. No, but.. James already HAD plans. He made plans with the Carriage guy to be there waiting… just then Ashley asked if they could take one. The moments just fell into place. The carriage stopped at a lake with a bow bridge over it (Bow Bridge) and again Ashley got excited! The carriage man said to them, ‘Go walk around, take pictures’. James’ ‘plans’ were falling into place. Things were going great… they walked on the bridge, no one in sight, James dropped to one knee and SURPRISED Ashley with yet another surprise : ) Ashley started crying and as he tried putting the OMG! ring on her shaky finger, a guy came running from nowhere and snapped a picture of them. ‘That picture would be great in their home’, James said. Did James PLAN that too? Who knows?! He knew she was in for another surprise when they walked back to the carriage, champagne awaiting : )
Yes, the night was full of surprises. Ashley is one lucky gal.
So, for their Engagement photo shoot they wanted something different. Another trip! They flew into Lexington from Tampa, FL the other day… to have a eventful weekend away. They decided on Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate for it’s beautiful gardens and grounds. A few hours before, Ashley pampered herself with a fun makeover at the local MAC cosmetics counter. I must THANK Sarah at MAC- Macy’s for her makeup magic! She gave Ashley a natural but va-va-voom look especially for the shoot. I just LOVE it!
Lovely garden at Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate at Lexington, KY. I never knew this existed!
Antique metal chairs, brick pathways, manicured topiary trees, lovely autumn blooms.. and not to mentioned Ashley’s HOT BCBG dress!
James is one very lucky man. Look at you Ashley! Simply gorgeous!!
Ahem.. perfect moment : )
When they are together, it feels like it’s just “Ashley & James”. Nothing else mattered.
Yes, they adore each other.
I know there will a lot of dancing at the wedding!
Hello?! Yellow mustard dress. Where have you been? I love Ashley’s sense of style. She brings ‘FUN’ to the shoot. I must soon find me a yellow dress!
Wait! I have a yellow dress : )
The late afternoon sunshine just at the right moment.
This belongs in their home too!
Or maybe this?
Please meet OMG! Discretion: Must wear sunglasses : ) James scored 1+ point that cold December day.
Towards the end of our BELOVED shoot, we stumbled upon this pictureques property near Thoroughbred park. We drove in what seem like a private drive, lined with estate trees and black farm fences (ahem.. it WAS private property). We decided to stop and explore this lovely pond with a tiny shed. It was just perfect.
Yes, a perfect end to a perfect LOVE shoot.

Leaves were falling. Leaving the brightly colored trees- all colors of autumn all around the Park. The brisk wind gently remind us that FALL is really here and we’re in for another spectacular fall color extravaganza. Not too early, not too late for Vandi and Derrick’s special day. The lovely couple spent their morning getting ready in separate cabins near the lake anticipating a full day of wedding to dos. Vandi was up early organizing all the ‘details’ of the day and then with hair and makeup. No boxes were unchecked. In fact, her list was reviewed twice, if not 3 times! She wanted a smooth sailing day, but most importantly a stress free day…
Vandi’s ivory mermaid style dress ‘glowed’ in the window. I love it when it zips off and becomes a short cocktail dress, perfect to party in at the reception! It became COMPLETE when she added a rhinestone detailed belt/ ribbon to her soft layered dress.
I can’t help but use this awesome burlap covered ‘DATE’ pillow as a prop!
A little something blue, old and borrowed…
Color!!! Vandi and Derrick’s colors were malibu blue, coral and tan.
Final makeup touches and on the right is her sister Cydni holding their HAIR inspiration. Side swept bangs with a low side ponytail. Just perfect for Vandi’s gorgeous bridesmaids!Caroline, the cutest flower girl was such a pleasure to photograph. Here she is ‘getting ready’ with Vandi.
Her precious dress came from Strasburg and ruffled bloomers and an ivory embellished headband completed her ‘wedding day’ look. So chic!
Derrick and his guys didn’t cut any corners. They looked SHARP in their Jos A Bank suits and Cole Haan shoes.
I love their untraditional color choice, tan with coral neck ties.
The afternoon was bright, very bright. Derrick awaits his bride~ a girl he asked to marry just 10 months ago.
Vandi remembered to smile…. I know she was excited, nervous, and anxious to see her groom : )
Yes, he is happy (to finally see her)…
What a gorgeous couple!
LOVE Vandi’s simple bouquet of coral-pink roses.
Ceremony site overlooking the lake.
Another fabulous cake by Abby Wynn. Vandi had 4 brooches added to her simply elegant, 4 tier butter cream cake. The sports theme groom’s cake was crafted by Sandra Mullins to showcase Derrick’s love for basketball/sports, then and now.

Country music, Silverado, Straight As… just a few words to describe Alexia. A girly girl, with smarts and a sense of style. She loves all things country and old.. perhaps a little ‘Sweet Home Alabama’, cowboy boots and this old barn… a familiar but rustic location for our Senior shoot.
Alexia: You are simply gorgeous! Here she looks a lot like Tiffany Amber Thiessen or maybe Katie Holmes?
LOVE her silver, sparkly, strappy heels!
So much more to come.. please check back soon for ALEXIA’s slideshow : )
